Thank you for this post! Dowd continues to assert a type of religion which is unidentifiable as my own; the crux of the arguments come from someone else's failures, and not Church teachings.

The statement attributed to Mario Cuomo is quite interesting, and noteworthy. He says, essentially, that he is no longer a Catholic. That's worth pointing out the next time anyone tries to trot out his Notre Dame speech in defense of pro-choice Catholic politicians.

You have just summarized everything I have been thinking about the insane remarks that pass for "reasonable" even amongst Christians and Catholics. Bravo!
Too bad many people will be too emotional and set on protecting their own positions to really hear such reasonable and logical points...
