Carl,
I saw an economist on EWTN recently give a fundamental definition of economics. I was awaiting the standard type of answer that economics is the distribution of scarce resources......etc etc. His answer was intereseting yet brilliant and hits at the truth of why this piece you wrote here makes so much sense. He said, essentially, that all economics and economies exist because people are selfish. This actually makes the most sense given our fallen world. It also reminds me of GKC who was always keen to point out that the one thing christianity could easily prove was The Fall- just look around in all cultures and in all times. Anyway, nice piece- thanks for your great work.
