I wish he had titled the novel: "Saints Helen and Constantine."

Carl E. Olson

Craig: Because...? He was an emperor, was he not? ;-) Granted, he's a difficult and complex figure. But I think that despite some serious flaws, he gets blamed for a lot of things that weren't necessarily his fault and doesn't get credit for the great goods he accomplished. Check out a recently published book, Defending Constantine: The Twilight of an Empire and the Dawn of Christendom (IVP, 2010), by Peter J. Leithart, pastor of Trinity Reformed Church in Moscow, Idaho.

It's funny you mention that book...I was just reading it last night! :o Yes, St. Constantine was an emperor, but in the titles or subtitles of de Wohl's other books he usually refers to the saint as "Saint so-and-so." (St. Francis is St. Francis not "The Monk Francis." St. Ignatius is St. Ignatius not "The Soldier Ignatius.") For consistency's sake, it would have been nice here too. It's a very minor point to be sure--but just a thought. I've only read his book on St. Benedict, but it was excellent...what a great series to be sure! :)
