Here's the story/"story":
So, again: why and what? Have fun, but be good.Dan Brown, whose The Da Vinci Code was condemned by the Vatican, has said he would like to meet Pope Benedict XVI. Interviewed by La Repubblica to mark the publication in Italy of his latest novel, The Lost Symbol, Mr Brown said even Opus Dei, the conservative Catholic organisation represented in The Da Vinci Code by a murderous monk, had understood that it was "only a novel".
Asked it was true he had sought a papal audience, Mr Brown said that to ask to meet the Pope would be impolite and would only "embarrass" the pontiff. "He might receive me while thinking he should not do so", he said. But if invited to Rome he would "jump on a plane. Certainly there are many things we would not agree on, but that does not matter".
Oh, as for The Da Vinci Code being "only a novel," here's the facts, ma'am.

This guy flatters himself. I doubt the Holy Father would have any idea who Dan Brown even is.

Dan Brown is afraid of embarrassing a life long academic and leader of a world wide organization? Really? I mean, I love cheesy romance and thriller novels as much as the next guy, but is this real?
As for embarrassment, if Brown hasn't been embarrassed by now then I don't know what could do it.

The Holy Father would be nothing but a model of grace, I'm sure. Perhaps it would be good for Brown.

Brown probably wants to see what it feels like to gaze upon a man whose IQ is 100 points higher than his own.

I'm sure Brown thinks he has lots of wonderful advice to give to B-XVI. However, I think the more interesting thing to find out is what B-XVI would say to Brown.
