I luv these lists. I get reminded to read Belloc's Belinda, am heartened to know others are reading Undset, am relieved to know that d'Entreves was as good as I thought it was, get to remark that Yes indeedy Bob Ford was a coward as anybody from Missouri can tell you, and am lefting wondering which four meal plan I should switch to.

Good list.. Was peeking at the National "Catholic" Reporter list - They had Eckard Tolle. How do they call themselves Catholic!

Predictably, Publishers Weekly - in the review on Amazon - slams Beckwith's book. Therefore I know it must be good. Many thanks for the recommendation.

I'm glad Catherine Harmon mentioned Undset's Gunnar's Daughter. It truly is a good reminder that, as Undset herself said, pagans before Christ struggled to find light in the shadows. But as she herself showed, life could only take on a tragic hue, not the sort of comic vision available after Christ.

Ah, a Best Books list is like a gift waiting to be opened. Thank you. Merry Christmas, (and Epiphany!) too!
