Robert Miller

“ [W]e urge our fellow citizens to see beyond party politics, to analyze campaign rhetoric critically, and to choose their political leaders according to principle, not party affiliation or mere self-interest”

Father Pavone quotes this statement of the US bishops favorably. But this statement is terribly misleading in the current US context. If one party has thoroughly adopted the platform of and allegiance with the culture of death, then the Church has a duty, in my opinion, to proscribe Catholic membership in that party and define voting for candidates of that party as objectively gravely sinful. I don't need to say which party in the US context fits that description at this point. But there certainly is ample precedent for Church condemnation of political parties that promote moral evil.

If we in the US let the IRC impede truth-telling, shame on us.
