On television! In Italian (ah, bummer). From The Earth Times:
Pope Benedict XVI plans to read out the Bible on Italian television in the autumn, Vatican sources said Thursday.
State-run RAI Television is due to run a series of readings from October 5 in which Vatican dignitaries read out the Bible from cover to cover. Benedict is expected to be the first to appear in the series, narrating the story of creation from the Book of Genesis.
It was not clear whether the pope's reading would be made live from the Vatican or whether it would be recorded in advance, but it seems Benedict favours a live reading from the Papal Palace.
Finally, proof for my Protestant friends that Catholics do read the Bible...
UPDATE (July 4, 2008): Catholic News Agency provides some additional information: "Pope Benedict XVI will take part in a continuous Bible reading for the Italian state broadcaster RAI, it has been announced. He will begin the six-day marathon recitation by reading the first chapter of Genesis in Italian on October 5. ... A total of 1,200 people will take part in the project, including cardinals, rabbis, politicians, academics, athletes, students, soldiers, and factory workers. Other languages will be used; for instance, the beginning of St. John’s Gospel will be read in Greek."
"Finally, proof for my Protestant friends that Catholics do read the Bible..."
It will actually probably just confirm their worst fear: that the Pope does not allow OTHERS to read the Bible.

Or, that when a Catholic DOES read the Bible, it makes national headlines. :)

Or he's using that funny Italian language to cover up something and change the meaning.
