"the Pope wants to bring back...the millions of Catholics who don’t go to church anymore."

Well, we all want that; but will this m.p. will bring that about? Dunno. If millions left over the new rite, tho, they left a long time ago, now.

What will bring them home is not the liturgy but the proclamation of the Good News (Luke 4:18-19). The liturgy is sustenance. Yes, the liturgy can be used as a tool for evangelization and catechesis, but the missionaries didn't convert most pagans just by celebrating the Mass.

Lex orandi, lex credendi. Probably the only other way to accomplish what Benedict XVI wants to accomplish is to strip the Novus Ordo of most of its flexibility and force some liturgical reverence in some quarters.

And, for that matter, I know I personally would appreciate knowing what to expect from Sunday to Sunday, and our parish is by no means liturgically radical or nonchalant.

"...Once people see the Traditional Latin Mass and contrast it with the Novus Ordo, they realize what’s been lost..."

Heavens to Betsy... and it's a Jesuit saying this!!

Brings a smile to my face.
