I'd like to think (out of sheer pride) that three or four of you have noticed that my posts here on the Insight Scoop blog have been fewer in number of late. And perhaps there is a sorry soul or two who fears that Carl the Snarl (as I am sometimes called, with great affection, by those who know me) is losing steam, mellowing out, running out of gas, gasping for air, needing a break, [insert your favorite cliché here].
I'm happy to report that such is not the case. On the contrary, I have been busier than usual since our family now has a new member — a son and a brother. His name is Gavin, and he is a happy and energetic 11-month-old boy who was finally able to come home with us for good a few days before Thanksgiving after a couple of months of legal work (involving three attorneys and a billion cell phone calls), much travel (interstate, thankfully, and not international), and more than a few ups-and-down, twists-and-turns, and highs-and-lows.
We are very aware of the many, many prayers that have been said on our behalf over the past year or so. I can say without hesitation that those prayers were of immeasurable encouragement and consolation for us during these past few months. God's grace, the prayers offered by friends and family, and the support of those around us have carried us through and brought the miracle of new life to our family.
I especially want to thank Mark Brumley for his incredible support and understanding these past few months, and to the wonderful folks at Ignatius Press. It's a tremendous privilege to work for an employer who truly places family in its rightful place. (Interestingly enough, I received the phone call that set this adoption into motion while Mark was driving me from San Francisco to Oakland in early September...)
This has been an unforgettable Thanksgiving and this Christmas will be even more joyful as we celebrate the gift of life and the Life that gives — and gives abundantly.
+ How very, very wonderful! God is good indeed. Prayers and felicitations to the family. A joy delayed is a joy enhanced!

Carl,
May the Holy Spirit's fruits of peace and joy be with you and your family especially at this most wonderful time and a very special prayer for Gavin.

Carl, congratulations to you and your family.
Be sure to buy 'Angel in the Waters' to read to your family and your new son when he grows older.

I did miss your absence... but i'm so happy for you and your family! Adopting a baby is a great act of mercy and a joy for both the child and the family that receives him... congratulations for your openness to life!

So, Carl, does this mean we can go ahead and post the photo on the blog? I've been holding back for the announcement.
