"For this reason Luther's 'sola fide' is true if it is not placed in opposition to charity, to love."

I have often thought that Luther had a true calling from God to be a reformer. The message of personal faith and salvation by grace was affirmed very clearly at Trent and it was a message that came through clearly with St. Ignatius of Loyola and St. Teresa of Avila in the Counter Reformation.

Luther's acid, sometimes foul tongue, his pride, stubbornness and nationalism took him to a place where he couldn't come back home, so he got off the boat and went all the way. I wonder how the Church would look today had he pulled over in time.
