From a USA Today piece drawn from a recent interview:
What Democrats need to do now, Dean said, is recast the debate on issues including abortion and win back voters who might be drawn to the party for its stands on economic issues and health care.
Democrats get “caught” in defending abortion, he said. “Well, there's nobody who's pro-abortion, not Democratic or Republican. What we want to debate is who gets to choose: (House Majority Leader) Tom DeLay and the federal politicians? Or does a woman get to make up her own mind?
That's it: some people are pro-choice. They choose abortion. But they're not pro-abortion. Get it?
Update: In an April 16th piece in the LA Times:
"We're going to use Terri Schiavo later on," Dean said of the brain-damaged Floridian who died last month after her feeding tube was removed amid a swarm of political controversy.
Dean, who has called congressional intervention in the Schiavo case "political grandstanding," singled out House Majority Leader Tom DeLay (R-Texas) for his leading role in the matter.
"The issue is: Are we going to live in a theocracy where the highest powers tell us what to do? Or are we going to be allowed to consult our own high powers when we make very difficult decisions?"
Yeah, we'd hate to have the government get involved in situations having to do with the protection of the life of citizens who are unable to speak for themselves. I'm guessing that Dean might agree that no one is pro-euthanasia. It's just that some people (even spouses) choose to kill people like Terri Schiavo by starving them to death. So, do we listen to God and commonsense or to activist judges and utilitarian ideologies? Apparently Dean is for the latter.

Good post, Carl.
The much maligned Cardinal Mahoney had this to say:
If they are so sure that their position is good and valid, why
can't they simply say aloud, "I support the right of a woman to destroy
her unborn baby"? Or "I support the right of a woman to have an abortion
and terminate her pregnancy"? I would have more respect for the politician
and abortion advocate who would finish the sentence...
